ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center resumed normal operations Tuesday afternoon after a cybersecurity threat impacted operations Monday.
The threat closed all UNM clinics and diverted ambulances Monday and cancelled HSC classes into Tuesday. As of Tuesday afternoon, all hospitals are open and both ambulance traffic and clinics are back to business as usual.
“Information technology security teams began containment efforts around 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26, after identifying a cybersecurity threat. Their assessment determined that the event affected some end-user devices but did not penetrate core systems or servers. Teams worked with external partners to secure the network and notified state and federal law enforcement,” UNM Health spokesperson Chris Ramirez stated.
System outages also required the suspension of outpatient surgeries and appointments for the remainder of Monday, according to the spokesperson. Classes at UNM’s Central and branch campuses weren’t affected.
All HSC academic and research programs are set to resume normal operations Wednesday. Care teams will also work with patients to reschedule affected appointments and procedures.
