A pedestrian was killed in a crash in the east valley Saturday, police said.
The Metropolitan Police Department said in a release that a fatal vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash occurred on East Desert Inn Road and South Mojave Road just before 7 p.m.
A 2019 white Dodge Durango was traveling east on East Desert Inn when a 66-year-old man crossed the road outside of a marked or implied crosswalk, Metro said. A collision occured as the front of the Durango impacted the pedestrian, according to the release.
The pedestrian was transported to Sunrise Hospital, where, despite all life-saving measures, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The driver of the Durango remained at the scene and did not show signs of impairment.
The pedestrian’s death marks the 97th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year. The crash remains under investigation.
