ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Three young men died after a driver lost control of a purple 2013 Infiniti near I-40 and Unser and the car burst into flames.
Police said four young men were inside the car when it crashed into trees in the median near I-40 and Unser over the weekend.
Police said three of them died and the lone survivor is in a Lubbock hospital with severe burns.
Evan Archuleta said he passed the crash site hours later while heading with his mother to Petrified National Forest.
“When we passed by, we could see that the car was completely just obliterated. There was like—you couldn’t even tell it was a car anymore,” Archuleta said.
Archuleta said he and his mother later saw skid marks after they returned from Gallup.
“We actually saw the skid marks when we got back from Gallup, and so we were just like, “Wow! Like they must have really been driving really fast. It was really sad,” Archuleta said.
Police have not released the victims’ names.
