Pay it 4ward: Honoring a legacy to fight hunger
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A local woman’s fight against hunger lives on through a fundraiser in her honor that has already raised close to $8,500 toward a $20,000 goal.
Before moving to New Mexico, Barbara Garcia worked as a professor at the University of Cincinnati and started a garden for students who did not have enough food.
Barbara Garcia and Rudy Garcia married in 2015. Before she died in August, they made it their mission to fight hunger in their neighborhood and through Roadrunner Food Bank.
An annual online food drive now carries Barbara Garcia’s name.
KOB 4 also gave a $400 check in Barbara Garcia’s name for the fundraiser and presented a certificate honoring her work with Roadrunner Food Bank.
