Nebraska collapses in 4th quarter for 3rd-straight game, lose to Washington in blackout game

Nebraska faces Washington Oct. 31 at Memorial Stadium

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – For the third-straight game, Nebraska entered the fourth quarter with a lead but did not find itself victorious, as Washington scored two touchdowns in the final two minutes to stun the Huskers 17-10 Saturday night at Memorial Stadium in the blackout game.

With Nebraska (5-3, 2-3 Big Ten) up 7-3 late, Washington (5-3, 2-3 Big Ten) faced a 4th-and-18 at the Nebraska 49-yard line, and a stop would have all but sealed the game for the Huskers. But, Washington quarterback Demond Williams Jr. connected with Chris Lawson for a 24-yard gain, resulting in a first down. Two plays later, the same duo connects for a 25-yard touchdown to give Washington the lead it would never lose.

On the ensuing Nebraska drive, Anthony Colandrea – where it was reported on Friday that he signed a deal to return to Nebraska in 2027 – threw his third interception of the game, this one being taken back the other way 48 yards by Alex McLaughlin.

Two touchdowns in the span of 11 seconds for Washington.

Colandrea finished the game 24-44 passing for 255 yards, one touchdown and the aforementioned three interceptions. He also rushed for 20 yards. Colandrea’s lone touchdown pass was to Carter Nelson in the first quarter, a 24-yard connection to give the Huskers a then 7-0 lead.

Jamal Rule was the leading rusher for the Huskers, going for 72 yards on 13 carries.

Jacory Barney Jr. and Luke Lindenmeyer each went over 60 yards receiving, with 65 and 61 respectively.

Defensively, Jahsear Whittington and Kade Pietrzak each had a sack, while Owen Chambliss led the team with seven tackles.

Nebraska returns to action on a short week Friday, Nov. 6 at Illinois. Kickoff from Champaign will be at 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcasted on FOX.
