Mayoral, other races decided in region

Noteworthy elections were carried out Tuesday in southcentral Kentucky.
In Simpson County, Kelly Bush eked out a narrow win in his campaign for Franklin mayor, earning 1,129 votes.
His fellow Franklin City Commissioner Wendell Stewart finished with 1,071 votes while Doug Thompson came in third place with 506 votes.
Bush will succeed outgoing Mayor Larry Dixon.
In Barren County, voters in Glasgow re-elected Mayor Henry Royse, who attained 2,570 votes against challenger Bob Miller, who finished with 511 votes.
Incumbent Cave City Mayor Dwayne Hatcher, meanwhile, lost his bid for re-election, coming up short against Clifton Parsley.

A member of the Cave City City Council, Parsley garnered 286 votes to Hatcher’s 207.
Voters in Butler County voted down a proposed 6.3-cent property tax to fund improvements to school facilities, with 2,232 people voting against the proposal to 1,598 in favor.
A similar nickel tax proposal in Logan County was also rejected at the polls.
Voters there were asked to consider a 5.9-cent tax levy from the Logan County Board of Education on each $100 of assessed value of real and personal property, with the funding going toward upgrade to school and district facilities.
The measure went down to defeat, with 4,704 voters against the proposal compared to 2,164 voting in support.
Logan County Judge-Executive Phillip Baker won another term, with the Republican winning 4,837 votes against Democratic challenger Scottie Harper, who netted 3,723 votes.
Logan County Sheriff Stephen Stratton also won re-election, with the Democrat earning 4,677 votes against his Republican opponent, Richard Dewayne Whittaker, who got 3,862 votes.
