Man who robbed Cedar Road gas station, punched clerk, arrested: Cleveland Heights police blotter

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio —

Robbery: Cedar Road

At 6:50 p.m. May 21, police were dispatched to the Shell gas station at 12404 Cedar Road on a report of a robbery. The male suspect was last seen running away west on Cedar.

The suspect entered the store carrying a bag of food from Chipotle and attempted to buy a drink from the refrigerator. After saying he would pay cash, the suspect said he would use his phone to pay. Finally, the suspect took the can and, without paying, attempted to leave the store.

The clerk/owner blocked the door. The suspect returned to the counter and took two packs of Black ‘n Mild cigars, then tried to leave the store. The clerk, blocked the door, told another worker to call police.

The suspect punched the clerk in the forehead. The suspect pushed aside the clerk and walked out as the other employee, armed with a broomstick, attempted to keep the door closed.

The suspect, however, pushed his way back into the store, got his Black ‘n Milds and food, and again walked to the door. He once more punched the clerk in the face.

During the ruckus, the bagged food fell to the floor and was left behind.

Police noted that the clerk had cuts about his face.

Police gathered DNA and fingerprints and looked at surveillance video taken from the street.

The suspect’s identity was learned as was his address. Police went to an Ambleside Drive apartment in Cleveland, where they were assisted by Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority officers, who were familiar with the suspect.

CHPD officers arrested the suspect for robbery, a second-degree felony.

Theft: Lee Road

At 3:15 p.m. May 15, police were called to Dollar General, 1955 Lee Road, where the manager reported that, about 10 minutes earlier, two suspected shoplifters had exited the store.

A male wearing all red entered the store with a bag, and left with it filled with stolen cleaning and laundry supplies. A woman entered the store seconds after the man and left carrying a basket and a bag filled with store merchandise.

The manager was training an employee and did not see the suspects, and therefore could not tell police exactly what was stolen. A cashier saw the suspects enter and leave the store.

Auto theft: East Overlook Road

At 6:10 p.m. May 15, a woman reported that she arrived home and left the engine to her Hyundai Genesis running as she parked and went into her house for 7-10 minutes to use the restroom.

She returned to her driveway to find the vehicle gone.

Inside the vehicle was the woman’s purse, along with jewelry, an iPhone, iPad and Apple watch. She valued the items stolen with the car at $6,000.

Disorderly conduct: Kenilworth Road

At 1 p.m. May 17, police were called to a home where they made contact with a woman and her father.

The woman told police she had been involved the day before in a domestic violence matter with her boyfriend in Euclid. She said her boyfriend took possession of her phone.

On May 17, Euclid police arrested the man.

The woman, meanwhile, had possession of her boyfriend’s phone. She used the phone to call her boyfriend’s sister to set up an exchange of phones so she could get back her phone.

They met and, the woman alleged, the sister lifted her shirt to show a gun in her waistband. The sister said she did not have the boyfriend’s phone, but the woman did not believe the sister.

The two women then fought in the driveway as the father and another man present attempted to separate them.

Police could not locate a gun at the scene.

Officers were unable to determine the aggressor, so both women were cited for disorderly conduct.

Criminal trespassing: Lee Road

At 12:20 p.m. May 22, officers responded to the second floor of the Lee Road Library branch, 2345 Lee Road, where a woman was reportedly causing a disturbance.

At the scene, police spoke with the woman, who began to type on a computer the words to the conversation she was having with an officer.

According to library staff, the woman was on the computer when she started yelling and swearing and making comments about “gang stalkers.”

A staff member asked the woman to be quiet and explained the library’s code of conduct. The woman responded by telling the staff member to call police.

Police gave the woman several opportunities to leave, but she refused, stating she could do what she wants and that police should ticket her if they so desired.

Police handcuffed the woman, escorted her out and charged her with criminal trespassing.
