JAMESTOWN (NewsDakota)- The final of the Class B state baseball quarterfinals saw two high-powered offenses facing off. But in the end, disappointment arrived for the Region 3 champions.
The Velva/Drake-Anamoose Aggies used a thirteen hit attack to defeat LaMoure/Litchville-Marion/Edgeley 10-6 on Thursday night at Jack Brown Stadium.
The ice was broken loudly, as Logan Vincent gave the Aggies the lead in the second with a solo homer and after Reese Steffen singled home a run and later scored in the third, it was 3-0 Velva. But the Loboes responded as Mason Warcken drove home a pair in the third with a single to cut the deficit to 3-2, and in the fourth, Colby Thielges delivered Colin Barnick with a sacrifice fly to center to tie the game at 3.
But in the fifth, the first five Aggies reached and four scored on two-run hits by Wesley Nickleson and Luke Selzler, who had four RBI on the night, in chasing Loboes starter Gunner Thielges. They would add three more in the sixth on a two-run single by Selzler and led 10-3. Though LaMoure/Litchville-Marion/Edgeley would score three in the seventh, it was not enough.
The Loboes will face Des Lacs Burlington in a consolation semifinal on Friday with coverage on KDDR The Tornado beginning at around 1:45pm. The Lakers fell to Kindred 4-3 in eight innings on Thursday night.
