FENWICK, Mich. (WOOD) — The path to recovery is rarely easy, but it’s a little easier with a fresh haircut. That’s the mindset of a local barber who is working to help people dealing with addictions.
Nick Green is the founder of Kutz For Recovery. He regularly sets aside haircut appointments for people in need, whether they need a trim or an in-depth cut. It’s a mission that is close to his heart.
“I’m a man in recovery myself. I have been clean and sober for 7 months now, and it’s a 24-hour battle,” Green told News 8.
He says the idea came to him while he was in a rehab facility, fighting with his own demons.
“I have found that our self-care and our self-worth is the bare minimum,” he said.
“This is one step that can make people feel good about themselves.”
Green believes it was a natural fit to take his craft, cutting hair, and blend it with his new passion — helping others.
“I push for repairing dignity and self-confidence. If a person comes and (sits) in my chair, I lend an ear. Us men, we talk to our barbers more than anything,” he said, telling News 8 that he is set to start classes to become a certified recovery coach.
Kutz For Recovery is a part of Outreach 419, a Montcalm County nonprofit that offers several different programs aimed at helping people with drug or alcohol addictions.
