A Jefferson County sheriff’s office employee was placed on administrative leave after they were seen in a state-licensed medical marijuana dispensary conducting what appeared to be a transaction.

The employee, assigned to the Jack Jones Juvenile Justice Center, appears in security footage purchasing an unknown product, a news release from the sheriff’s office says.

The sheriff’s office opened an investigation and placed the employee on administrative leave pending the determination whether the employee’s conduct is consistent with agency policies, professional standards and applicable law, the release says.

The sheriff’s office is reviewing all available evidence, including the surveillance video and any additional evidence necessary to determine the facts surrounding the incident, the release says.

It has not reached conclusions regarding the nature of the transaction in the video or whether any policy violations occurred, the release says. Administrative leave should not be interpreted as a finding of wrongdoing or misconduct, the release says.
