A ballot measure to temporarily change California’s U.S. Congressional districts before the 2026 midterm election will go to voters this November after the Legislature approved a redistricting in response to Texas’ move to gerrymander their districts to help Republicans retain the House. Gov. Gavin Newsom was expected to sign the measure today.

Currently, Democrats hold 43 of the state’s 52 congressional seats. If the measure passes, the new map could flip five Republican seats and solidify Democrats’ hold on others.

While most of the districts in the Bay Area remain relatively unchanged, the North Bay and parts of the East Bay will be altered.
