JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) is searching for the next president of Jackson State University (JSU).
The IHL voted to hire AGB Search to lead the national search. The firm will help find a replacement for former President Dr. Marcus Thompson, who resigned earlier this year.
Two leaders from AGB Search, Dr. Kim Barry and Dr. Carlton Brown, will work with the IHL Board and JSU’s search committee to identify top candidates.
“We believe that best practice is that before the board finalizes its description of who it is looking for, that it gains input from all stakeholder groups. And to that end, we hold listening sessions for students, faculty, staff, alumni, your partners for the institution,” said Brown.
IHL officials said the recruiting process is expected to take about eight weeks to find candidates of interest. Semifinal and finalist interviews are expected in early 2026.
AGB Search recommended that institutions form a transition team to ensure the next president has a successful start.
