Gun confiscated from student at Albuquerque middle school

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A gun was confiscated from a student at an Albuquerque school Tuesday, according to Albuquerque Public Schools.

The gun was found at Jimmy Carter Middle School. Principal Michelle Velasquez notified parents via email, thanking those who came forward to alert officials about the situation.

“As soon as the weapon was reported to us, we located the student and secured the weapon,” Velasquez wrote in the email, saying staff and APS police helped deescalate the situation and detaining the student.

The student was not named, nor was their grade or age provided, but Velasquez said they could face “severe consequences” including expulsion and potential prosecution.

Velasquez told parents that anyone with questions or concerns can contact her directly.
