Oakes, ND  (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornados fought hard against the 3-seed Central Cass Squirrels but a 6 run 6th inning for the Squirrels capped off by a grand slam doused any hopes for a comeback as they fell 9-2.

The game started as a pitchers duel with neither team able to get anything to go. The Squirrels would get the scoring started in the 3rd with 3 runs on 2 hits and an error to take a 3-0 lead. That score would hold until the top of the 6th. The Tornadoes would load the bases off of 2 hits and a walk with a single out. Trey Miles would walk to make it 3-1. Nathan Schmitz would get hit with a pitch to make it 3-2. Central Cass would change up pitchers with Grady Mueller coming in to strike out the next 2 Tornados. Central Cass would then chase Jaxson Gebhardt in the 6th as they would load the bases on 2 hit batters and a walk. Gebhardt would walk one more batter before being pulled in favor of Joseph Dobitz. Dobitz would give up one walk before the Brody Kegley would hit a grand slam to center to make it 9-2 putting the gane away for the Squirrels.

The Squirrels play in the semifinals at 11:00 am on Friday the 15th at Cummings Field against the Kindred Vikings. The Tornados now go to the losers bracket in danger of elimination. They play around 1:30 pm on Friday against the Oak Grove Grovers at Cummings Field. If they win they’ll play again around 6:30 pm against the winner of Northern Cass vs Sargent County. All Oakes Tornado games can be heard on KDDR The Tornado.
