BG group to host first Latin American and Caribbean Festival

The Hispanic Community Alliance of Bowling Green, Inc. will host its inaugural, free Latin American and Caribbean Festival from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, September 12 at Lampkin Park — located at 938 Morgantown Road in Bowling Green.
The Hispanic Community Alliance is a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting, empowering and celebrating Hispanic and Latino communities in Bowling Green and Southcentral Kentucky.
Tarsis Hicks, founder and president of the Hispanic Community Alliance, said the Latin American and Caribbean Festival will be the organization’s first event. The festival will also kick off Hispanic Heritage Month — a celebration held annually from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. to recognize the histories, cultures and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans in the United States.
“We are all Hispanic, but we have different cultures,” Hicks said.
Hicks said the Hispanic Community Alliance wants to bring people from all backgrounds together at the festival to celebrate the cultures, traditions, businesses, talents and contributions of different Hispanic and Latino communities in the Southcentral Kentucky region.
The family-friendly festival will feature live music, traditional dance performances, authentic Latin American and Caribbean food, local vendors, cultural exhibits, children’s activities and community resources. Some of the festival’s sponsors include Houchens Food Group, Price Less IGA and Tutu Entertainment LLC, according to Hicks.

Through this festival, Hicks hopes the community will learn more about different Hispanic backgrounds and cultures, connect with the Hispanic Community Alliance, enjoy the cultural diversity and celebrate Hispanic and Latino heritage together as a community.
“I hope the whole community will support us and be there,” Hicks said. “Get ready to dance.”
