NEAR CANTON, S.D. (KELO) — Pumpkin picking season is here, and one annual fall festival near Canton is in full swing.

From a pumpkin cannon to a pumpkin patch, there’s no shortage of things to do at Riverview Christmas Tree Farm’s 9th Annual Pumpkin Festival.

“There’s really something for the whole family out here,” Riverview Christmas Tree Farm owner Todd Gannon said.

“I’ve been playing with my friends on the bouncy houses, and I’ve been shooting the apple cannons with them,” Jace Gannon said.

Sunday, it’s finally starting to feel like October, but the unseasonably warm temperatures we’ve had so far this fall has impacted attendance.

“The warmer temperatures probably had little lighter crowds than normal. We expect to see everybody start showing up here in the next couple of weeks,” Todd Gannon said.

Owner Todd Gannon hopes to see cooler weather as the month continues.

“We’re definitely looking forward to the cool weather. It definitely gets people in the pumpkin-picking mood, get all the fall gear out and just really come out, enjoy a fall festival,” Todd Gannon said.

“I think the more fall starts to set in, the more people will be outside. I think we’re all a little over summer,” festival attendee Dillon Hinker said.

But whether it was finding the perfect pumpkin or nailing a bank shot, on Sunday, families were enjoying some time together comfortably.

“To see the kids out having a good time and spend a little time outdoors, that’s good enough for me,” Hinker said.

There was also a fundraiser at the Riverview Pumpkin Festival this weekend. $4 from every pumpkin sold will go toward Cure Kids Cancer. You can check out the festival every weekend for the rest of October.
