Austin Police identifies victim in East Riverside Drive fatal crash

AUSTIN (KXAN)– On Tuesday, the Austin Police Department identified the victim who died in a southeast Austin crash.

Around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, APD Officers responded to a crash involving a white and silver car in the 2300 block of East Riverside Drive, APD said in a press release. APD said Juanita Cortinas, who was a passenger in the silver car, was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

Austin Police said the driver of the silver car was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the other vehicle had minor injuries and was not transported.

KXAN tracks the number of fatal crashes in Austin. This incident is Austin’s 32 fatal crash resulting in 36 fatalities thus far in 2025.
