Albuquerque breaks September rain record, Santa Fe leads recent rainfall in NM

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A recent storm allowed Albuquerque to break the record for rainiest September on record while Santa Fe led New Mexico for rainfall totals.

The Albuquerque Sunport saw 1.18-inch of rain over the course of Tuesday and Wednesday. That rainfall put Albuquerque at 4.49 inches for September 2026, passing September 2013 (3.97 inches) as the rainiest September on record in the city.

The storm dumped rain all over New Mexico. Santa Fe led the way with 4.55 inches, according to reports. Glenwood (4.36 in.), T or C (3.4 in.), Rio Rancho (3.32 in.), Edgewood (3.07 in.), Mountainair (3.07 in.) each also picked up at least 3 inches of rain.

Rainfall varied, even in places like Santa Fe where the airport recorded 2.66 inches. Los Alamos picked up 2.52 inches, Las Vegas picked up 2.49, Roswell saw 2.45 and Ruidoso saw 2.35. Farmington, Gallup and Roswell each measured less than an inch.
