7-run 5th inning lifts Sea Dogs past Fightin Phils

The Portland Sea Dogs scored seven runs in the fifth inning, including three home runs, in a 9-3 win over the Reading Fightin Phils in the teams’ series finale Sunday in Reading, Pennsylvania.

Johanfran Garcia hit a three-run homer in the inning, while Stanley Tucker added a two-run shot and Nelly Taylor a solo blast. All three homers came off Reading pitcher Kyle Brnovich (1-6), who allowed seven hits and seven earned runs in 4 2/3 innings.

Garcia finished with three hits for Portland (31-31), while Tucker and Taylor had two apiece.

John Holobetz (3-3) pitched six innings of three-hit shutout ball to earn the win. He struck out six batters and walked one.

Former Sea Dog Alex Binelas homered for Reading (28-35).
