BELFAST — Waldo County will be celebrating 250 years of Freedom of Belief on Friday, June 26 at the UU Church, 37 Miller St. in Belfast, with a potluck supper at 5 p.m. and a showing of “Inherit the Wind” with Spencer Tracy at 6 p.m. All are invited and there is no charge.
The public is invited to bring a dish to share and stay for the movie “Inherit the Wind”, directed by Stanley Kramer in 1960. This is a tense, thought-provoking adaptation of the famous 1925 Scopes “Monkey Trial”, brilliantly pitting science against religious fundamentalism while championing the right to think critically. There will be a discussion after the film for those who wish to stay.

With the first amendment freedom to believe, express and practice religious beliefs under attack by Christian Nationalists, Multi-faith Justice Maine embraces this celebration of differences in events throughout Maine. Multi-faith Justice Maine is an arm of the Maine People’s Alliance, and is a statewide movement that brings together people from across the spectrum of belief and traditions to work together to create a more just and loving world. Part of our focus is countering the white Christian nationalist movement by strengthening and celebrating the multi-faith community.
