Venezuela earthquake death toll rises to 2,595

AKIPRESS.COM – The temporary acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, announced that the death toll from the devastating earthquake has risen to 2,595 people.

As of July 1, the reported number of fatalities stood at 2,295, with nearly 11,300 others suffering injuries.

The head of state assured the public that search and rescue operations under the rubble will continue, emphasizing that survivors may still be found.

Rodríguez announced creation of a $200 million state reconstruction fund established in cooperation with the International Monetary Fund.

Two powerful earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 struck Venezuela on June 24, followed by 782 recorded aftershocks in the subsequent days.

Widespread destruction has been reported in Caracas, as well as in the states of Miranda, Aragua, Carabobo, Lara, and Yaracuy.

The city of La Guaira was hit the hardest, where at least 100 buildings were completely leveled to the ground.
