US Treasury expands Iran sanctions following Islamabad talk cancellation

AKIPRESS.COM – The U.S. Department of the Treasury has updated its sanctions lists regarding Iran, with the Office of Foreign Assets Control adding 14 new entries.

The updated restrictions target individuals and organizations across Iran, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates.

Notably, the list now includes several individuals associated with the Iranian airline Mahan Air, along with two of the carrier’s Boeing 777-200ER aircraft. Washington had previously sanctioned the airline due to its alleged ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The announcement follows Iran’s formal refusal on the evening of April 21 to participate in scheduled negotiations in Islamabad.

In response to the cancellation, US President Donald Trump announced an extension of the ceasefire with Iran. However, according to Iranian state television, Tehran does not recognize the US decision and maintains the right to act at its own discretion.
