Nigeria has just evacuated its first Ebola patient out of the country to some unknown destination in Europe.
The Nigerian prime Ebola Victim, reportedly a lady who had flown into the country from the Democratic Republic of Congo with the disease, was again taken out of Abuja aboard an air ambulance which took off from the private jet wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
But some sources now claim that the Nigerian Health Minister Prof. Muhammad Pate confirmed that the patient has been evacuated to Switzerland. She was reportedly also in stable condition.
Reports from Nigeria say the patient happens to be the wife of a Swiss diplomat in Nigeria, that is why she gets the advantage of being flown to Geneva for further medical treatment.
A plane picked her up at the General Aviation Terminal after arriving in a convoy of vehicular ambulances from Abuja city centre with diplomatic vehicles in the entourage.
The three-vehicle convoy had an international Agency vehicle entering the Private Jet section of the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja.
Airport officials cordoned off the private wing of the airport.
The Federal Government of Nigeria said it will make the announcement of the medical evacuation only after the plane has taken off and exited the Nigerian airspace.
This first Ebola case in Nigeria has been causing headlines in the West African country.
The Ministry of Health had earlier reported that the lady, after leaving DR Congo, had flown to Abuja from Uganda where she could have picked the infections.
However, the Ugandan Ministry of Health was quick to respond that the East African country had no single Ebola case at the moment.
Nigeria did not disclose the identity of the lady, until now when some reports are emerging that she could be related to a highly-placed Swiss diplomat in Abuja.
Nearly 9,450 Ebola cases have been confirmed so far, with the DR Congo reporting most of them at 9,420 patients, Uganda had 20, Kenya 9, France 1, Brazil 1 and Nigeria 1.
A total of 2,541 patients have recovered from the disease.
Since the outbreak in May 2026, Ebola has killed 4,540 people.
