A total of 56 Tajik athletes competed in 17 ethnosport disciplines at the Games. The largest Tajik delegation competed in kok-boru(Uzbek, Tatar: kökbörü, kök “blue” + börü “wolf”, a traditional Central Asian team sport played on horseback; Tajik: buzkashi: “goat grabbing”)  , with 13 athletes, followed by seven competitors in gushtini milli kamarbandi (belt wrestling), six in alaman chabish and five in alysh wrestling.

Firdavs Yoriyev won Tajikistan’s first gold medal in the men’s +100 kg belt wrestling competition.

The second gold came in the 1,600-meter horse race. The winning horse was named Khutulun, while the jockey’s name was not listed in the official competition protocols.

Tajikistan’s three bronze medals came in wrestling and horseback wrestling.

Navrouz Karimzod took bronze in the 84 kg Kyrgyz-kuresh wrestling competition. Tuychiboi Norqulov won bronze in the 90 kg category, while Navrouz Eshbekov finished third in the 100 kg category in horseback wrestling.

Kazakhstan won the overall medal standings with 32 gold, 20 silver and 22 bronze medals. Kyrgyzstan finished second with 30 gold, 35 silver and 19 bronze, while Russia placed third with seven gold, seven silver and 19 bronze medals.

Tajikistan ranked eighth with two gold and three bronze medals. Athletes from 29 countries won medals at the Games.

Representatives of 109 countries participated in the 2026 World Nomad Games. Around 3,000 members of sports delegations took part in the competitions.

The Games featured 42 ethnosport disciplines, including equestrian events, various forms of wrestling, intellectual competitions and traditional hunting events associated with nomadic cultures.

A total of 114 sets of medals were contested. An additional gold medal was awarded in the Great Nomad Wrestling competition, where only a winner was determined, with no silver or bronze medals awarded. Overall, 115 gold, 114 silver and 144 bronze medals were awarded.

The World Nomad Games are held every two years to promote the traditional sports, culture and heritage of nomadic peoples.

The first three editions were held in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan. The fourth Games took place in Iznik, Türkiye, in 2022, attracting more than 3,000 athletes from 102 countries. The fifth Games were held in Astana, Kazakhstan, with more than 2,500 athletes from 89 countries participating.

In 2021, the World Nomad Games were included in UNESCO’s Register of Best Safeguarding Practices under the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
