Some Tajik citizens who are officially on the wanted list may be exempt from criminal prosecution under the country’s newly adopted amnesty law, the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Dushanbe has announced.
According to the ministry, Article 13, Part 2 of the Law on Amnesty, adopted on June 16, 2026, allows criminal proceedings to be terminated without summoning the accused or obtaining their consent in cases involving minor and medium-gravity offenses. The provision also covers certain drug-related crimes specified in Articles 200 and 201 of the Criminal Code.
The Interior Ministry said the measure also applies to individuals who have been officially declared wanted. Once a criminal case is terminated under the amnesty, the individual is removed from the wanted list.
The ministry urged eligible citizens, including those currently wanted by law enforcement, to seek further information through its WhatsApp and Telegram hotline at (+992) 018-02-02-02.
The amnesty law was adopted by the Majlisi Namoyandagon, the lower house of Tajikistan’s parliament, to mark the 35th anniversary of the country’s independence. President Emomali Rahmon signed the legislation into law on June 16.
According to the law, 18,038 convicted individuals are eligible for amnesty. Of those, 11,305 will be released from prison, settlement colonies, or other non-custodial forms of punishment, while 6,733 will receive reduced sentences.
