Starting in 2027, Tajikistan will begin iron production for the first time since independence. President Emomali Rahmon announced this on September 8 in Dushanbe during a speech marking the 35th anniversary of the republic’s state independence.
“It should be particularly noted that during the period of independence, the country for the first time established the production and export of copper, and starting next year, iron production will begin,” said the head of state.
The president noted that during the period of independence, new production sectors have emerged in the country, including the production of lead, zinc, antimony and copper concentrates, certain types of metals, pharmaceuticals, agricultural machinery, vehicles, household appliances, cable products, and new building materials.
According to Rahmon, industrial development is one of the priority directions of state policy within the framework of accelerated industrialization of the country.
The president reported that if there were 358 industrial enterprises in the country in 1991, today their number exceeds 4,000. By the end of 2026, it is planned to create another 500 industrial enterprises and production workshops.
The head of state also reported that the volume of industrial production increased from 4.1 billion somoni in 2000 to 66.4 billion somoni in 2025. The number of types of industrial products increased from 85 in 1991 to more than 1,400.
According to the president, over the past 10 years, the country has produced import-substituting products worth 163 billion somoni.
Rahmon stated that thanks to accelerated industrialization, Tajikistan is gradually transforming into a country-producer and exporter of competitive industrial products.
