Fuel and Diesel Prices Rise in Tajikistan

In recent days, the prices of gasoline and diesel fuel in Tajikistan have increased from 40 dirams to 2 somoni 30 dirams.

Specifically, on June 9, at gas stations in Dushanbe, 1 liter of the most demanded AI-92 gasoline cost 11 somoni 30 dirams. A week ago, the price of this type of fuel was 10 somoni 90 dirams, and just three weeks ago — 10 somoni 40 dirams.

Diesel fuel has also significantly increased in price: its cost rose from 11 somoni last week to 13 somoni 30 dirams per liter.

Gas station sellers in Dushanbe reported that they do not know the reasons for the fuel price increase, but there is no shortage of gasoline and diesel fuel at the stations.

Meanwhile, the Antimonopoly Service of Tajikistan explained the rise in gasoline and diesel fuel prices by the situation on the global market.

“Since this is an imported product, it directly depends on the global market. Due to conflicts in the Middle East, its price is constantly changing,” the agency explained to Asia-Plus.

Attempts by Asia-Plus to get a comment from the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of the country regarding the reasons for the fuel price increase were unsuccessful: the agency did not respond to numerous phone calls from journalists.

In March and April of this year, prices for these types of fuel had already increased due to the conflict in the Middle East.

According to the data from the Statistics Agency of Tajikistan, in the first quarter of this year, more than 325 thousand tons of petroleum products were imported into the country, amounting to over 251 million dollars. Thus, each ton of fuel cost importers an average of 772 dollars.

Compared to the same period in 2025, the volume of petroleum product imports in the first three months of this year increased by 11.4%, and their cost rose by 8.6%.

The main supplier of petroleum products to Tajikistan remains Russia. In 2025, more than 1.2 million tons of petroleum products and liquefied gas were supplied from Russia to Tajikistan, accounting for over 70% of the total import volume of these goods.

Tajikistan also imports fuel in smaller volumes from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and other countries.

In Tajikistan, fuel prices, especially for liquefied gas and gasoline, periodically increase, leading to higher transportation costs and other services. However, after some time, when fuel prices decrease, transportation tariffs and the cost of other services generally remain unchanged.
