A new training classroom for law enforcement and military personnel has opened at the Regional Training Center for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Security and Counter-Terrorism Involving Weapons of Mass Destruction.

The opening ceremony was attended by National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan (NAST) President Qobiljohn Khushvakhtzoda, representatives of NAST, the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Safety and Security Agency (CBRN SSA) under the NASTDirector Ilhom Mirsaidzoda, and law enforcement and military personnel.

The classroom is designed to strengthen participants’ knowledge and practical skills in preventing, detecting and responding to threats involving CBRN materials, as well as counter-terrorism involving weapons of mass destruction.

Training will use modern technologies, interactive tools and simulated real-life scenarios. Participants will practice detecting and identifying nuclear and other radioactive materials, preventing their illicit trafficking, assessing incident sites and responding to CBRN emergencies.

The new facility will also help trainees improve operational decision-making, threat assessment, the use of detection equipment and personal protective gear, and coordination among relevant agencies.

The CBRN Security Agency said it places particular emphasis on long-term cooperation with law enforcement and military structures. Regular training courses, workshops, practical classes and joint exercises are held to improve agencies’ readiness for coordinated responses to CBRN threats.

The new classroom is expected to strengthen Tajikistan’s national capacity in counter-terrorism, preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and responding to CBRN incidents.
