Cabinet Chief says Kyrgyzstan is ready for EAG mutual evaluation on money laundering

AKIPRESS.COM – Kyrgyzstan is ready for the third round of mutual evaluation of its national system for preventing money laundering and terrorist financing, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Head of the Presidential Administration Adylbek Kasymaliev said at the 18th meeting of the Interagency Commission on these issues.

According to the Cabinet’s press service, the meeting was attended by experts from the Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism (EAG), representatives of government agencies and members of the Interagency Commission.

Kasymaliev said Kyrgyzstan is open to an objective and comprehensive assessment of its national system and expects to receive recommendations to improve its effectiveness.

He noted that following the second round of mutual evaluation, Kyrgyzstan updated its criminal legislation and established a legal framework regulating virtual assets.

Particular attention is being paid to reducing the shadow economy and increasing transparency in economic activity. Measures include the digitalization of public administration, as well as tax and customs administration.

The Cabinet reported an increase in tax and customs revenues. Taxes and payments administered by the State Tax Service rose from 106 billion soms in 2021 to 308 billion soms in 2025. Customs revenues increased from 47 billion to 157 billion soms over the same period.

The meeting also presented the program for the EAG assessment team’s on-site mission to Kyrgyzstan and discussed the country’s preparations for the third round of mutual evaluation.

Participants also discussed preparations for a National Strategy on combating the financing of criminal activities and money laundering, risk management, disclosure of beneficial ownership information, and the liquidation of inactive legal entities.
