Raqqa Journalist Says He Was Interrogated by Internal Security Officer

Syrian journalist Ammar Hamidi said he was summoned on Tuesday to the Internal Security Command in Raqqa, where a masked officer conducted what he described as an interrogation disguised as an introductory meeting.

Hamidi, a correspondent for Zaman al‑Wasl, said the officer — identifying himself as “Abu Bakr” — accused him of working with the Syrian Democratic Forces and Turkish intelligence, and of contributing to what he called the newspaper’s “hostile” editorial stance toward the state. Hamidi said his phone was searched and several contacts were recorded without his consent.

He added that the officer demanded he provide reports on journalists in Raqqa and warned him against publishing details of the session. Hamidi said he rejected all accusations and condemned what he described as intimidation aimed at restricting his work.

The journalist said he holds the Internal Security Command responsible for his safety and called on press‑freedom organisations to take a public position on the incident, noting that it comes amid a wider campaign targeting Zaman al‑Wasl correspondents.
