Authorities in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area say Dungkujeer Boma in Lekuangole County came under attack from suspected White Army fighters from Akobo County in Jonglei State on Friday morning.

Speaking to Eye Radio, Greater Pibor Administrative Area Minister of Information Jacob Werchum Juok said the suspected attackers entered the area at around 11:00 a.m.

He said local youth resisted the attack and forced the assailants to retreat toward Akobo.

“We are at peace with Akobo. The road leading to Akobo from Pibor has not been used by the Murle community to attack the Lou Nuer. But now, to our surprise, they have used that road to attack civilians in the border area of Lekuangole, which is not good,” he said.

The minister said casualties have not yet been verified.

He added that security forces have been deployed to protect civilians and assess the situation.

Werchum said authorities believe some of the attackers were killed during the confrontation, but the number has not yet been confirmed.

He also said no civilian deaths had been confirmed at the time of the interview, as authorities continued to verify the situation on the ground.

The minister appealed for calm and urged communities in Jonglei State to avoid further violence.

“We urge all the citizens of Jonglei, particularly those in Lekuangole, to remain at peace with Greater Pibor and not allow further conflict that affects civilians,” he appealed.

The reported attack comes amid recurring tensions and cattle-related violence along the border between the Greater Pibor Administrative Area and parts of Jonglei State.

Authorities and community leaders have repeatedly called for peaceful coexistence between the communities.

Eye Radio was not able to independently verify the claims, and officials in Akobo County had not commented on the allegations by the time of publication.
