On Moldova’s National Day on August 27, when President Maia Sandu attended a military parade in Chisinau alongside Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky and their Romanian counterpart Nicusor Dan, at least five Russian drones entered the country’s airspace. 

Sandu called Russia’s action an attempt to intimidate – and vowed to invest more in cooperation and defence.

“The sky above us shows us most clearly how important our cooperation is. Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine is being felt beyond its borders: the airspace of Moldova and Romania has been violated dozens of times,” she said.

“Even today, on the eve of our celebration, Russian drones entered our airspace in a clear attempt to intimidate us. I say clearly and firmly, in the presence of our friends: we will not be intimidated!” Sandu declared.

Russian drone incursions have increased in recent months.
