The LBJ Tropical Medical Center was presented yesterday with donated wheelchairs, walkers, orthopedic boots and other supplies.
The donation was from a foundation that was set up by Cardiologist Dr Eric Carter and his wife Sr. Allison Carter, who worked at LBJ Hospital as LDS volunteers a few years ago.
The Carters are here with the Rheumatic Heart Disease Relief Rroup from BYU and Mayo Clinic screening children for RHD.
While Dr Carter is in Manu’a with the RHD Group, Sr. Carter presented the gifts to LBJ CEO Scott Anesi.
She said they set up the foundation to help reduce the high rate of rheumatic heart disease in American Samoa and their main partners in the foundation are BYU and Mayo Clinic.
