PNP records 15 gun ban violators in BARMM

MANILA, Philippines — At least 15 gun ban violators have been recorded by the Philippine National Police (PNP) in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) since the start of the election period on July 16.

The Commission on Elections has imposed the gun ban until Sept. 29 to ensure safety and security during the election period for the historic Bangsamoro parliamentary polls.

According to the PNP’s latest monitoring report, two of the violators were intercepted at checkpoints, seven during police response and patrol operations, two during an anti-illegal drugs campaign, two during gun buy-bust operations, and two during other law enforcement operations.

Meanwhile, the PNP reported that a total of 19 individuals had been arrested since July 16.

About 23,912 personnel from the PNP, the Armed Forces of the Philippines and other law enforcement agencies were deployed to more than 100 identified areas of concern in the region.

The BARMM will hold its first-ever elections on Sept. 14, with about 2.3 million voters expected to elect 80 members of the Bangsamoro Parliament. /das
