Coast Guard in Northern Luzon warns of rocket debris from China

TUGUEGARAO CITY — The Coast Guard District North Eastern Luzon (CGDNELZN) has imposed temporary maritime restrictions ahead of the scheduled launch of China’s Long March 7A rocket from Wenchang, Hainan, on Wednesday, May 28.

The Philippine Coast Guard warned that rocket debris could fall within identified drop zones off Northern Luzon waters between 12:08 a.m. and 1:12 a.m. Philippine time.

“Small craft and fishermen are urged to avoid the drop zones, keep clear of any debris, and report any sightings immediately,” the Coast Guard said in an advisory.

Authorities said the first drop zone is estimated to be 41 nautical miles (76 kilometers) from Burgos, Ilocos Norte, and 62 nautical miles (115 km) from Dalupiri Island, Cagayan.

The second drop zone is estimated to be 69 nautical miles (17 km) from Burgos and 81 nautical miles from Dalupiri Island.

The Coast Guard also advised the public not to approach or attempt to retrieve any debris.

“Report floating objects or suspicious findings to Coast Guard personnel or local authorities immediately,” the agency said./coa
