RIMPAC 2026: Peru concludes participation in world’s largest maritime exercise

Peru concluded its participation, alongside 29 other countries, in the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2026 multinational exercise, regarded as the world’s largest combined naval training.

In this context, U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Brent DeVore (Commander of the RIMPAC 2026 Expeditionary Strike Force) and Chilean Navy Commodore Andres Howard (Deputy Commander of the RIMPAC 2026 Combined Task Force) held a virtual press conference on the conclusion of the combined naval exercise.

The two naval officers outlined the key lessons learned from working alongside 30 participating nations, including Chile, Colombia, Guatemala, Mexico, and Peru, as well as 30,000 personnel.

Both officials emphasized that all participating countries bring valuable experience that contributes to countering common threats such as drug trafficking, illegal fishing, and other shared challenges.

The two naval officers highlighted that this year’s edition marks the first time a Latin American navy—the Chilean Navy—has commanded the Amphibious Task Force.

The defense officials also noted that the annual exercise reinforces the operational value of large-scale combined training, the shared commitment to regional stability, and the momentum that RIMPAC 2026 generates for future multinational readiness.

At RIMPAC 2026, the Peruvian Navy deployed the multipurpose vessel B.A.P. Pisco and the submarine B.A.P. Chipana.
