Peru’s President: We are strengthening police intelligence and technology to combat crime

said on Tuesday that his administration has strengthened the Peruvian State’s response to crime through a comprehensive strategy that combines operational measures, crime prevention, territorial intervention, and coordination among the institutions responsible for citizen security.

He explained that these measures are complemented by targeted interventions, the strengthening of the operational capabilities of the Peruvian National Police, the recovery of public spaces, as well as closer coordination among the National Government, regional governments, and municipalities.

The Head of State highlighted the strengthening of neighborhood watch groups and the promotion of preventive measures aimed particularly at children, adolescents, and youth to reduce the risk factors associated with violence and crime.

“Security is not built solely through greater resources or a stronger police presence; it is also built through opportunities, inclusion, education, culture, and sports,” he emphasized.

Citizen Security Plan

During his remarks, the president recalled that, at the beginning of his administration, the National Citizen Security and Crime-Fighting Plan 2026–2028 was approved.

The plan serves as a framework for coordinated State action to restore the rule of authority and protect public safety.

The plan is based on four pillars: multisectoral crime prevention, strengthening intelligence and criminal investigations, effective control of the country’s territory and borders against illegal economies, as well as strengthening the justice and prison systems.

The top official also stressed that citizen security requires the joint participation of all levels of government, the justice administration system, the Armed Forces, the Peruvian National Police, and organized citizenry.

“Faced with these challenges, the State cannot act in an isolated manner. Citizen security is a shared responsibility,” he expressed.
