Mining investment in Peru grows by 42.7% from January to August 2026

Cumulative mining investment in Peru from January to August 2026 reached US$ 4.8 billion, representing a 42.7% increase compared to the same period the previous year, the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) highlighted today.

The Ministry noted that this result demonstrates the dynamism of investment in the mining sector, which strengthens the prospects for developing new projects and expanding existing operations.

According to the Mining Statistical Bulletin (BEM)—prepared by Minem’s General Directorate for Mining Promotion and Sustainability—the mining subsector recorded an investment of US$ 696 million in August 2026 alone. This marks a 30.4% year-on-year increase and represents the second-highest monthly figure for the year.

Regarding the “Infrastructure” category, cumulative investment through the first eight months of 2026 reached US$ 1.3 billion—a 65.7% increase over the figure recorded during the same period in 2025.

With this result, the infrastructure category accounted for 27.2% of total mining investment, remaining the primary destination for cumulative investment capital within the subsector.

In the “Development and Preparation” category, cumulative investment as of August 2026 totaled US$ 1.03 billion, exceeding the amount reported for the same period in 2025 by 106.7%. This expenditure represented 21.4% of the total cumulative mining investment nationwide. Meanwhile, in the “Processing Plant” category, cumulative investment from January to August 2026 reached US$ 839 million—a figure 22.4% higher than that recorded during the same period in 2025.

In the “Exploration” category, cumulative investment from January to August 2026 reached US$ 476 million, exceeding the figure for the same period in 2025 by 1.2%.

Finally, in the “Other” category (which includes dam construction, resettlement, intangible assets, land acquisition, etc.), cumulative investment totaled US$ 579 million—an increase of 69.5% over the amount recorded during the same period in 2025.

At the regional (departmental) level, Arequipa was the primary destination for mining investment in the country between January and August 2026, receiving US$ 789 million, or 16.4% of the national total. It is followed by Ica with US$ 648 million (13.5%) and Moquegua with US$ 479 million (10.0%).
