Foreign Affairs Ministry reaffirms commitment to working to address Peru’s challenges

Foreign Affairs Minister Carlos Espa reaffirmed his commitment to working to address the major challenges facing Peru.

Remarks were made during the central ceremony marking the 205th anniversary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diplomat’s Day held at Torre Tagle Palace in Lima on Monday.

The ceremony was attended by senior government officials.

In his speech, the government official highlighted the role played by the ministry throughout its more than two centuries of service to Peru.

“The prestige that Torre Tagle has earned is not the result of chance; it is the outcome of the serious, technical, and steadfast work of an institution that has made excellence one of its greatest strengths and is sustained by the professional quality it has cultivated,” he emphasized.

In turn, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Head of the Diplomatic Service of the Republic, Ambassador Eric Anderson, underscored that “foreign policy also has a profound human dimension.”

“Our consular offices are the face of the Peruvian State for hundreds of thousands of fellow Peruvians residing abroad. Their mission is to protect our fellow citizens, strengthen their ties with Peru, preserve their identity, and keep them fully connected to the nation’s life,” Espa expressed.

Anniversary commemoration

The celebrations marking the 205th anniversary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diplomat’s Day began early Monday with a tribute at the graves of Marshal Ramon Castilla, Jose Gregorio Paz Soldan y Ureta, and Javier Perez de Cuellar at Presbitero Matias Maestro Cemetery in Lima.

Later, floral tributes were laid at the monument to Jose Faustino Sanchez Carrion at the square bearing his name, located behind the Congress of the Republic.

Following the ceremony, a Thanksgiving Mass was held at the Chapel of Our Lady of the O, located within San Pedro Church, also in Downtown Lima.
