The 5th Sel Kambang Festival concluded on a high note on Friday, June 26, after a week-long celebration of culture, unity and tradition at Ningerum Station, the headquarters of Ningerum LLG in North Fly District, Western Province.

The festival brought together participants from the district’s four major tribal groups, who proudly showcased their rich cultural heritage through traditional dances, songs, storytelling and customary performances.

Held from Monday, June 22, to Friday, June 26, the festival strengthened unity among the Local Level Governments (LLGs) of North Fly District while providing a platform to preserve and promote the region’s unique cultural identity.

Speaking during the closing ceremony, Sel Kambang Festival Chairman Mr. Karu Philly thanked all participating cultural groups, community leaders and supporters for making the event a success.

“Through culture, it builds the foundation we stand on,” Mr. Philly said.

He also acknowledged the efforts of the organising committee, thanking members who had worked tirelessly over the past two months to prepare and deliver the festival.

Mr. Philly further expressed his appreciation to district leaders and sponsors for their support in ensuring the successful staging of the annual event.

Looking ahead, he announced that the 6th Sel Kambang Festival will once again be hosted at Ningerum Station next year.

In the absence of the festival patron and North Fly MP James Donald, Mr. Philly, who is also a nominated member of the North Fly District Development Authority and Assembly member of the Fly River Provincial Government officially declared the festival closed at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

Following the closing ceremony, participating cultural groups returned to their respective villages after receiving cash appreciation awards in recognition of their performances and contributions throughout the festival.
