Pep Guardiola to leave Manchester City after a decade of dominance

London: The 55-year-old Spanish manager announced his departure after spending a decade transforming Manchester City into one of the most dominant teams in world football.

During his time at the club, Guardiola guided City to 17 major trophies, 20 overall, including six Premier League titles, a UEFA Champions League crown, three FA Cups, and five EFL Cups. His reign is widely regarded as one of the most successful managerial eras in English football history.

Speaking about his decision, Guardiola said: “Don’t ask me the reasons I’m leaving. There is no reason, but deep inside, I know it’s my time.”

He added: “Nothing is eternal, if it was, I would be here. Eternal will be the feeling, the people, the memories, the love I have for my Manchester City.”

Guardiola’s final game in charge will take place on Sunday at the Etihad Stadium, bringing the curtain down on 10 memorable seasons at the club.

Reports from BBC Sport earlier this week stated that City had already begun preparing for Guardiola’s departure despite him still having a year remaining on his contract.

Meanwhile, former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, who previously worked under Guardiola at City, has emerged as the frontrunner to take over the managerial role.
