Oman’s national cricket team begins Asian Games qualification quest in Singapore

Singapore: The qualifiers will be held in Singapore from May 31 to June 9, as Oman aims to secure a place on one of Asia’s biggest sporting stages through a youthful squad made up entirely of Omani players.

Ahead of the tournament, the national team will undergo an external preparatory camp in Singapore, the final phase of its build-up before the qualifiers begin. The technical staff will focus on improving the players’ technical and physical readiness through intensive training sessions designed to sharpen skills, strengthen tactical coordination, and help the squad adapt to Singapore’s climatic conditions and playing surfaces.

The camp follows the conclusion of Oman’s internal training programme at the Oman Cricket Academy in Al Amerat, where preparations were carried out in an atmosphere marked by discipline, determination, and high ambition ahead of the continental challenge.

The squad will be led by veteran player Sufyan Mehmood, as Oman continues its efforts to strengthen local cricket talent and build a national team capable of competing on both continental and international levels.

The delegation includes Sufyan Mehmood (captain), Muzaffar Sheralkar, Mohammed Al-Balushi, Shuaib Al-Balushi, Zubair Al-Balushi, Abduljalil Al-Balushi, Issa Al-Balushi, Samir Yousef, Naveed Al-Balushi, Ahmed Al-Zadjali, Waseem Al-Balushi, Fares Al-Balushi, Rashid Al-Balushi, and Munther Al-Balushi.

The technical staff is headed by coach Sultan Ahmed, assisted by Parvez Al-Balushi, alongside team manager Saeed Haider Al-Balushi.

Oman will begin its Group Two campaign against the Maldives in early June before taking on hosts Singapore on June 3.
