Oman to enforce mandatory certification for imported water and fish products starting April 22

MUSCAT : Under the new regulations, bottled drinking water, farmed fish, and canned fish products will only be permitted entry into Omani markets if the supplying facilities are officially certified in their country of origin.

The measure applies to all importing companies and institutions operating in the Sultanate of Oman.
The Centre stated that the decision is part of efforts to strengthen the national food safety and quality system, safeguard consumer health, and regulate food import operations in accordance with the Food Safety Law issued under Royal Decree No. 84/2008 and its executive regulations.

Importers had been granted a six-month grace period from the date of announcement to regularise their status and ensure compliance with the new certification requirements. The FSQC urged companies and institutions to take the necessary steps promptly to avoid disruptions in the import of affected food products.

The authority stressed that it will not be responsible for any financial obligations arising from contracts concluded with non-compliant food establishments, underscoring the importance of due diligence in sourcing and supplier verification.
