U.S. President Donald Trump used the anniversary of the Korean War Armistice Agreement to warn of a renewed communist threat, saying the ideology behind North Korea’s June 1950 invasion is attempting to make headway “in the West.”

In a 613-word White House statement marking Washington’s National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day on Tuesday, Trump honored veterans of the 1950-53 conflict while delivering a broader anti-communist message. 

“The same communist ambition that once sought to conquer the Korean Peninsula is trying to rear its ugly head once more — this time in the West — yet our resolve will never falter,”
