Cyberattack attempts targeting the Korea Hana Foundation, a state-funded organization helping North Korean defectors resettle in South Korea, have surged more than sixfold in four years, according to a South Korean lawmaker Tuesday.

The organization under South Korea’s Unification Ministry recorded 944 cyberattack attempts from January to July 15, exceeding the 817 record attempts all of the previous year, according to Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Joon-hwan’s office.

Starting in 2022, the foundation recorded 151, 394 and 608 annual cyberattack attempts, respectively.
