Filmmaker Manoj Pandit appointed as member of Censor Board

Kathmandu, May 15

Filmmaker Manoj Pandit has been appointed as a member of the Central Film Examination Committee (Censor Board). Udaya Bahadur Rana Magar, spokesperson for the Ministry of Information and Communication, informed Onlinekhabar that the appointment was made through a ministerial decision.

Following an ordinance brought by the government last week, three previously appointed members of the board were removed from their positions. Pandit has been appointed to fill one of those vacancies. Spokesperson Rana Magar said preparations are underway to appoint individuals to the remaining two vacant member positions.

Pandit will go to the ministry today to collect his appointment letter. Responding to the appointment, Pandit said he would take the initiative to carry out a comprehensive restructuring of the board.

“The main task is to create an atmosphere of trust between the film industry and the board,” he said. “Yesterday I was in a position to ask questions; today I have reached a position where I must provide answers.”

He added that he would work to resolve the problems within the Censor Board from the inside.
