Malta Police Force Marks 212 Years Of Service

The Malta Police Force is marking its 212th anniversary as officers, government officials and members of the public came together to celebrate Police Day.

The commemorations began with a Holy Mass at the Police General Headquarters, celebrated by Cardinal Mario Grech, before officers took part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Police Monument in honour of colleagues who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Addressing the ceremony, Home Affairs Minister Glenn Bedingfield praised the dedication, professionalism and courage of police officers, describing Police Day as an opportunity for the country to recognise the men and women who work tirelessly to keep communities safe.

The minister also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to investing in the Malta Police Force through modern infrastructure, specialised training, advanced technology and continued support for officers’ wellbeing, highlighting emerging challenges such as cybercrime, organised crime and the misuse of artificial intelligence.

Nationalist Party Leader Alex Borg also attended the ceremony.

Founded in 1814, the Malta Police Force has served the country for more than two centuries, with this year’s Police Day recognising both its history and the ongoing work of officers across Malta and Gozo.

Here’s to 212 years of protecting and serving Malta.
