UN Libya said three years after the devastating floods in Derna (10-11 September) and other parts of northeastern Libya, the pain of that night remains deeply felt.

The UN said it is honouring the memory of the thousands of men, women and children who lost their lives. It said it is standing with their families in their grief and with those who still search for loved ones and seeking answers and a body to bury.

Since this devastating tragedy, the UN statement added, Derna has witnessed significant reconstruction and the determination of its people to rebuild their city and look to the future with hope.

Yet important priorities remain, including addressing the cases of missing persons, supporting affected families, restoring livelihoods and services, and ensuring that recovery is inclusive, resilient and sustainable.

The United Nations in Libya said it remains committed to working with national and local partners as well as the communities as recovery continues, while keeping the needs and rights of those affected at the heart of the response.
