A report by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has found limited locust breeding in southwestern Libya during July. Scattered groups of both immature and adult locusts were observed in the area. The FAO called for increased monitoring and survey operations in the region’s breeding zones.

The report, reviewed by Al-Marsad, indicated that isolated locust swarms, both young and mature, were spotted in southwestern parts of the country last month. According to the FAO, the presence of locusts is expected to persist in these areas.

The organization stressed the need for intensified surveys across all breeding areas to track the movement, size, and concentrations of locust swarms in North African countries.
