As part of the technical evaluation and follow-up work of dam facilities, the Dams and Flood Risk Study Committee at the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund conducted a field tour of the main and secondary Wadi Al-Qattara dam, accompanied by a delegation from French company Artelia.
The tour comes within the work of the committee pursuant to Resolution No. (39) of 2026.
The tour included an inspection of the facilities, installations and technical equipment of the two dams, and a review of the operating mechanisms, where specialists at the Ministry of Water Resources gave a presentation on the technical capabilities of the two dams, their working mechanism and their operational status.
Evaluating structural and technical condition of dams
The visit is part of the committee’s tasks to study and evaluate the structural and technical condition of the dams, analyse the potential risks associated with floods, and identify the needs and procedures necessary to raise the level of readiness and enhance the efficiency of protection facilities, in order to support the safety of areas and facilities located within the danger zones.
These tasks are stipulated within the terms of reference of the Committee in the resolution.
